I agree with Ray. Most modern automotive springs are 5160 or similar. While that steel makes a tough knife, with a strait razor you want edge holding. If you were to make identical blades from the spring and 1084 you'd put twice as much work(if not more) into forging the spring and it would at minimum hold an edge 20% less.
