After a couple of weeks, we were starting to wind down our part of the operation. Ours had been
the emergency phase, the British were able to bring in heavy equip to repair roads, construct shelters,etc....I was told the Col. wanted to see me, so I went to the command tent.Turns out, he needed a car to get around in, and finish up his reports on the situation.
My new duty would be driving him anywhere he needed to go...hellyeah! sure beat what I had been doing.He gave me a letter of authority, and I headed over to catch the duty officer on the other side of the airport.There were plenty of cars in the terminal parking lot,They had been driven there and abandoned...the owners had grabbed a flight out of there.
