Nice work Jason! I think everybody should start out using just hand tools and improvising their own heat treating. It helps you understand what processes need to be done and how to do them. That, in turn, helps you decide what machines to buy to do those processes more easily.
And, when something finally does come up - as it surely will - that you simply cannot do on a machine you already have the confidence and skill to know you can find a way to do it....
