Larry, I have never thought the osage to be oily but now that you mention it is. The 3 Some I did last week I had a heck of a time dying and this knife would only work after several coats of the alcohol based leather dye. I'm just about out of osage now. This is one wood I like working with but I can't stand the natural color. Depending on how the wood is cut its got some really nice grain to.
