Tape a piece of sandpaper very tight to a piece of wood or metal, tight, no slack, sharp corners. Work it forward from the handle, do not go back and forth with a sharp edge to the handle. That will help to get rid of the over scratches on the flats. May cause a bit of swirls at the handle, but better looking than those scratches.
