I've never worked on that exact knife but it would be odd for the pin to not pass all the way through the pommel. In most cases, the holes in the pommel would be slightly flared, the pin passed through and just a little bit longer than it needs to be. The ends of the pin are then peened which causes them to spread filling in the slightly chamferred edges of the holes. Then the pommel is ground smooth and this step can cause the joint between the pin and the hole to disappear. You might try just lightly drilling into the pin to the point where the drilled hole just barely exceeds the pin diameter and then stop. Use a punch and a mallet to drive the pin out .....
