How thick is the butt cap? If it's 3/16 or thicker I drill a partial hole about 3/4 through the brass and tap it 1/4-20 with a bottom tap and then solder the screw in. I then drill a hole in the antler and tap it, then fill with epoxy and screw the butt plate on. You can also take a matching brass screw and go all the way through the butt plate as well if it's only 1/8" thick and no solder needed just use superglue or loctite on the threads. The strongest method if you can't solder a long screw to the tang. I have tapped wood and antlers and it works well with epoxy.

I always use brass screws in case I have to drill all the way through like the 3/16 is too thin to hold a screw unless it goes all the way through or is soldered. If you have 10-24 or 10-32 brass screws that fine too. Use a 7/32 drill bit for tapping 1/4-20 and 5/32 for 10-24, unless you have set of number drills, but those are close enough.
