I am trying to get ideas for a sheath I want to make for a knife i made for a grandson. I would like to use a seasnake skin I pickedmup. I glued apiece of the skin to a piece of leather. It seems to be holding fine, but what about doing it permanent. I have two ideas but don't really know how to do it. One is to put a border around the sknin and glue and sew, the other is to inlet the leather and sew. Any help will be greatly appreciated, and any other ideas to put the snake skin on the sheath will be welcomed.

When I do an inlay on a sheath, I use Barge cement to glue the skin to the leather, and as you guessed, sew on a border. There are, however, lots of ways to skin a cat!

Wow, fabulous sheaths Gene. Whak snake is it (they) from? Whaere do you guys get your snakeskin?
I mostly use cobra skin from india.
I wait for them to go on sale then buy 3 or 4 at a time.
I buy mine at the leather factory locally.
It is easier than wrestling the local rattlers, they will fight for thieir skin, just like me.
I prefer all my materials be dead before I use them. :)
Did you ever try to get a fresh elk antler?
THERE'S a fight!

Great work Geno. Martyn,I get some cobra like Geno from the Leather Factory.I have picked up some python at the Guild show. The other skin I have been using is Water Moccasin. We have quite a few here in Florida and my nephew gets one occassionly while hog hunting. He hunts hogs with his dogs and a knife.Just slightly nuts.Dave:D
Dave, Is your nephew's name, BUBBA? :)
