Does anyone have a Kalamazoo belt sander, 1x42? Will they hold up, belt track ok, etc; Thanks!

Don't know about the 1"x42", but I have a 2"x48" and the only thing I like about it is the Baldor motor.I not happy with the tracking adjustment and the way you change belts is a joke.It is also extremely loud. The contact wheel is totally useless.Other than that it's great(bwahaha). As far as a 1"x42" goes I have a Craftsman that I have had for about 10 years and it's still running strong.I use it for handle work now.though.My wife and I were laid off in Oct.and as soon as I get a new job,I am tearing the Kalamazoo apart and building a 2" x 72".Hope this helps.Dave

Thanks Dave...and yes, it does help a lot! Would the 1x42 be good for knife sharpening?

I use the 1"x42" for sharpening,slack belt,worn 400grit, then a leather belt with white rouge.Dave

I have a 1X42 Kazoo. Ok for handle work, and is better than nothing for a flat grind. You will have to grind the platen (such as it is) narrower so you can use both side of the belt.

Once you have changed the size of the platen, it is easy to keep the belt on track.
