I am hoping this isn't too dumd a question,
when you use screws on handles and bolsters do you stagger the holes from side to side or use the same hole and run the screws in till they meet?

Not dumb at all Justin......I had the exact same question! I have seen both methods employed, but I think it looks better if the screws are lined up. An experienced eye will catch off set screws in a New York minute! It's tough to do screws on a tapered tang since there is so little material to thread, and by the time you get a screw coming from each side......not many threads to hold your handle material.

Using a threaded sleeve, like a folder pivot, allows you to insert a screw from both sides. Works for me.

Here is another idea that is similar to Don's. Jantz sells 'finished rivets' that work really well. They are of the male/female type, and the heads are finished and single slotted. They used to sell the cross slotted type and had them available in stainless (really NS), but the new catalog only lists the single slotted in brass.

I use the threaded barrels too.
It saves breaking taps off in your tang.
