Bob have you ever worked purple heart? If not here are a couple of tricks to bring out the purple color. After cutting the slabs and getting them down to the finished size lay them in a window seal and let the sun light shine on them for a day or two ,this will bring out the purple color. You can also lightly burn the outer edge with a propane torch to deepen the color but be careful not to over do it-----Regards Rade

this is all done before any type of finish is applied, after getting the desired color I usually put about 3 coats of tru oil sanding between coats with 0000 steel wool.

Hi, I'm new to the board.

If you are looking for purpleheart, or several other exotics,
try Wall Lumber, I've found them to be reliable, and they'll deliver by UPS for smaller quantities.

Hey, Rade.
I have the slabs glued on and I am going to shape them. I will try your window trick after I get them to size. I have found a hot belt will bring the purple out, as well.

Sounds like it is the same with Cocobolo. Had to leave it in the sun for a week or two to get out the nice darkened color the slabs had when I goot them...
