hello everyone I need some advise on guards for a sword. It has to be able to take hits. any ideals? btw this is a viking style.

Viking sword guards all seem to be heavy but don't protrude much from the blade. I'd say they'd take hits but our ancestors must have had pretty tough knuckles...

We might have some SCA types here who've been daft enough to spar with Viking style swords and who could chime in....

GANN - from your post I can't tell if it's a "real" sword you are working on? The above link has a good cross section of styles if so.

You say it must take hits???? Please clarify!

BTW - SCA Swords are made of rattan wrapped with duct tape and the sword hand must be have a metal gauntlet on it or the sword must have a full basket hilt - safety is always a concern (and some of those guys hit HARD!)
