Great blade, especially the pattern in the blade. Can you elaborate on how the pattern was developed?

Thanks

I remember Chuck talking about the process last year. What you are seeing are little chunks of cable in powered steel. I can't remember if the powered steel was 1084 or 95. Instead of seeing the cable forged out flat you are seeing the ends of the cable.

Great gift. Chuck does great work. I may have the end drop off that billet. Looks the same. It was a gift from Chuck. I forged it in the other direction. Blade had a ladder pattern on one side and a twist pattern on the other. I believe it is 1084, cable, and a touch of 15N20.

Been a while since I've been here. You are all on the right track. Cable stuffed into a can, poured in 1084 powder with 3% pure nickel added. Forge weld, re-stack to get more concentration of the ends. Loaf the billet then forge the blade. Yes Andy had a piece, when forged from the side it is like a twist pattern. The more you grind into one side the pattern changes. This was one tough billet. I destroyed 3 bandsaw blades trying to cut it. I wound up using the cut-off wheel.

Jeff I am glad you like it and you are more than welcome. Thanks for your efforts as well filming Tai's video. It was a lot of fun getting together and beating hot steel. We need to do it again sometime.

Thanks for the explanation Chuck. I saw the knife in real life Monday, while I was over at Jeff's... very very nice! :)
