Hello,

I know this is not a question about knifes but a friend asked if I could find some osage orange big enough to be used as a stock for a black powder gun, tennessee mountianman style. He needs one about 5'-6' long. I've checked out the sites I found in my searches, but they are either to short or are to thin (meant for bows).

I'm going to be out of town for the next three weeks, I maybe able to check this post occasionally, but I won't know til I get to San Antonio.

Thanks and see you guys in three weeks,
Drac

Hi, you might try eBay. Just type in Osage orange lumber in the search window. Hope this helps...Bud

You might find something here:

http://www.brazosmesquite.com/osage_orange_lumber.htm

They offer Osage Orange lumber, apparently have logs available for their own cutting, and there is a contact, to inquire about custom sizes.

Walosi and Mike,
You guys are killing me here. Really good links. I've got to show one more pic that knocked my socks off.

This is a piece of Curly Redwood from BurlwoodOnline:

 Indeed - I'll be luck to get to sleep, now. Old Woodchucks shouldn't look at wild grains this close to bedtime

The first man that can find me stabilized burls in 12x12 by 1/8th in sheets is my hero! I'll even look at 3x12's or 6x12's ... I doubt it exists, but might as well ask all my pro friends :p

Alex, this early (and without coffee) the closest I can come is:

http://www.veneeronline.com/species.asp?species=BRLBIR&char=ANY&cut=any&pattern=&searchsubmission=false&minlength=0&maxlength=600&minqty=0&maxqty=10000&minwidth=0&maxwidth=1000&availableas=Any&thickness=Any&Logdisplay=10

My troubled intellect says that if they can cut veneers, from burl and that thin, someone can stabilize it.....that's still without the aid of coffee :(

Alex, this place started out doing stabilization of flooring veneers, I believe, before getting into the stabilizing that we know in the knife trade. Talk to Mike there, if he can't/doesn't do it, he will know who does.
