Do you feel a mirror polished blade on the knife kits is a good thing?
How about a diamond black coating.

Thoughts?

a mirror polish would be a nice option

Is diamond black boron carbide?

I would go with a brush finish of some kind, that way the maker can clean up the finish by hand, it will get mared I don't care how carefull thay are or how many protective measures are taken, finishing without a blemish is a learned
behavour it takes time. Gib

Polishing the blade of the 605 was easy enough, but when you are taking down the scales it is not easy to not touch the bolsters. Should you use some type of tape on the bolsters?
What would hold up to the grinding belt?
Black Diamond blades sound like a good idea. You should also suggest that the liners could be finished in a bake on finish after shaping that scales.

On The bolsters try using a razor blade to mark the scales on the knife. Then take them off and grind to the mark you made.

Bob not a problem.
Try rounding them a little into the front bolster after getting them close. Use a little 400 grit sand paper to round . Do a little at a time until its just right .


We have set up with Darrell Lewis for boron carbide sales.

The price will be 12.50 for the blade to be mirror polished and boron carbide coated.
The whole Kit will cost 25.00 for boron carbide.
Darrel is making two samples of the whole kit in a month or so.
We will offer a hi polished blade for 7.50 also.

This is my first folder knive and only my 3th knive I have tried to make. What size drill bits do I use for the scales??

when fitting the scale to the knife..its not hard at all..
simply cut your scale material in a big enough rectangle
to overlap the liner about 6mm all around.. then take your liner with bolster attached..and your rectangle
of handle material..and place the handle material on your flat grinder and grind one corner of it at a corresponding angle to the fit of the bolster..it doesnt
take much..when its right..the angle fits perfectly agianst
the bolster and youve plenty of scale material to cover
the liner now that its sitting at an angle on the liner..
next drill your scale holding screws ( 2) and screw them
into the scale..now.its ready to grind to fit the liner..it takes less than 2 minutes to make it fit pefectly on a
flat surface grinder useing the round roller edge to grind the curvy
liner geometry.. in less than 10 mins from start to stop
you can have a perfectly fitting scale..then do the other one..and then build the knife..run it lightly over the surface grinder to even up the liners..and your done..whole knife..done in 30 mins...polish up and sell
ive built over 60 of them so far..no problems at all.....

1/6 through the liner into the scales. Then 3/32 for clearence.
Then you can counter bore with a 9/64 or 5/32 deep enough to lower the screw head flush.

A black, or other exotic finish would be nice. A newbie couldn't do it otherwise. It could stimulate an interest in learning more, I think.
