I am putting wood scales on two of my kits and was wondering if anyone knew offhand what size step drill I need for the scale screws.. If not I will wing it on some extra material until I get it right..

Thanks, John

John,

I got mine from Koval. They have three sizes and I'm pretty sure that it was the middle size. (Sorry, I'm not near the drills right now) Anyways, Just chuck it up in a drill press and set the depth stop and you'll be set. Go Ahead and ask how I know to set the depth stop........

Ok I will ask... How did you set the depth on the drill press?

Methinks Bob was referring not as much *how* to set the drill stop, than *why* you should set it! ;)

Bob, got any spare scales laying around???

If there is no quill stop on your machine, run the drill feed all the way down and set the work table to the bottoming depth desired. I use shims to govern the depth, but that takes a little experience.
Setting the work table to the right height will give you uniform hole depths, as the drill feed runs out, every time.
Hope it helps.
