The February 7th meeting is fast approaching. Charlie and I will be ready. We will have a social on Friday night at the Twin Blades Shop for those getting there the day before the meeting. The Saturday drill will be the same as usual with the Board meeting getting underway about 8:00 and the Guild meeting starting around 9:15 or so. The first demonstrations will follow. Lunch will be about noon, with the "iron in the hat" raffle immediately after to help pay for lunch. Don't for get to bring something from your shop to put on the table. The last demonstration will be after lunch. We should be through by 2:30 or 3:00.
The John Poythress Scholarship raffle will follow lunch too. We are looking for something to raffle, if anyone wants to donate a knife please let me know.
We have had three requests for demonstrations. The first is going to be a quick and easy way to post pictures on the forums. I plan on doing this one.
The next demonstration will be on working with stag scales. How to straighten them and grind them for use as knife handles when they look unusable to start with. Things to look out for and consider when buying stag. It will change the way you look for stag I promise. Charlie will be doing this one.
The last demonstration will be fitting guards on stick tangs. I am looking for a volunteer on this one. Please contact me if you are willing to do this or you might have to listen to me or Charlie again and the shop won't be as clean as it should be.
Hopefully there will be some forging going on Friday afternoon and during the day on Saturday. So if you want to give it a try bring some safety glasses and let us know.
As usual with these things we are going to have a good time, talk about knives and everybody is welcome. Just let us know if you can that you are planning on attending so we can plan on lunch.
Jamie should have directions posted on the Georgia Custom Knifemaker's Guild site. As well as some Hotel information. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
