If you're in the market, a belt grinder, preferrably a 2 X 72, is what you need. You have a wide range of options, depending on how you wish to go about it. You can either buy or build your own. Prices typically range from $300 to over $2000. If you let us know how much you are willing to spend, we can help narrow your search.
Bench grinders with abrasive wheels aren't good for getting a good finish. You'd be better off using files.

The only "stupid" question, is the one that is not asked. That's what this forum is for. We all learn here.

I would definetly recommend a belt grinder of so sort.

You would get most out of getting a beltgrinder. You canīt even compare it to a benchgrinder.

There are lots of belt grinders available, but you could always build your own if you don't want to shell out the big bucks for one of the top of the line grinders. I built mine and it will do anything that the big boys will for less that half of the cost,
