Hello All,
I know with the meeting next weekend some of you will be travelling so I thought I would share something. I was in Greensboro, NC. this past weekend and I went to the Woodcraft store by the mall. They have recently received a shipment of exotic "turning" wood. They have zebra wood, bocote, cocobolo, spalted big leaf maple, burled maple, mahogany, purple heart, ebony, rosewood and on and on. I picked up a piece of cocobolo 2"x2"x6" for a little over 5 dollars. I also splurged (for me) and got a piece of black and white ebony 2"x6"x6" . More than I ever thought I would pay for a piece of wood. I just thought I would share the info, maybe some of you will end up travelling through. Might be worth a quick stop. I will include a couple of pictures.

One thing to watch out for in turning wood is that it's often left a little "green". You may need to dry it for a while to avoid shifting or cracking. Hope to see you at the meeting next weekend.

Thanks. I will do just that. It has a coating of wax on it right now. I am going to remove the wax and put it into my home made kiln. (wooden box with a rack, a hundred watt light and a small exhaust fan.)
I appreciate the tip, I just couldn't pass up such a pretty piece of wood.

I think they'll both make great looking handles, if you feel like bringing them up to the meeting I'm sure several folks would be interested in seeing the score.
