gentlemen and ladies too'
i an a very low buck or i should say no buck operatiop.
my question is if i took 4 each 4inch castors 2-21/2 inches wide and used one of them as a drive wheel on a 2hp electric motor and using some of the pictures i have seen on this forum could i possibly make a 2x72 inch belt sander. any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

There are two main problems with using casters. First they are not rated for the extreem speed they would be spinning and they most likely are not balanced anywhere near enough to avoid vibration. You can balance them but the bearings just won't hold up very long. Also if they are not a good quality they may break apart.

You may want to fly your inquiry on a couple other threads too. I have seen a couple good "home made" grinders out there and I think there are some plans available too.

Any one else remember these?

Geno's tool time forum has several posts about home built grinders. Mike Connor has an awesome one he built. However I have not seen any using casters. I did see a small SLOW speed slack belt (4wheel) grinder that used skateboard wheels. It was kinda cool and I am thiniking of making one of those. The key is SLOW SPEED.
