I have some Simmonds D-2 joiner and planer blades, that are hardened. If I choose to grind this steel in the hardened state, which type belts and grits would be recommended. I will be making small 3-4 inch working knives, with a 400 grit finish.Your comments and advice are appreciated.

Ken, in my experience the same belts that work well for annealed steel work well for hard steel.

Ken, I grind all my knives after they are heat treated. I use a lot of D-2. The best belts I've found so
far is the 3M Cubitron. Using 50 grit, I can get about 5 to 6 blades (3" to 4" blade length). That's
when I use the flat platen, when hollow grinding, I get to 8 blades.

Stay Safe,
A.T.
