Can you solder stainless to stainless? Every time I try I cannot get a good joint, I also think I may be heating the blade to much and ruining the temper. I don't have any way of testing it but the sanding feels different just above the guard. What about soldering aluminum to stainless?
Thanks

There is some excellent info. back a bit in this forum I believe but here is something usablable in some situations. Tin each piece separately. then place the two pieces together to complete the soldering.
Frank has the right idea.
The biggest secret to soldering is to keep EVERYTHING CLEAN, and watch the heat.

Yeah clean is a must. Also paint your flux on all surface area to be soldered. Make sure your flux is suited for stainless. I solder with the tang side up and as the solder starts to melt put heat on the bottomside of the guard and the solder will flow through and leave a nice little filet.
Take care

Geno , What and how do you clean your parts prior to flux and soldering??? Skiffster
All scale must be removed. Shiney clean metal all around, inside and out.
Wipe it down with thinner or acetone and flux immeadiatly.
Finger prints are just enough to keep it from sticking.
Make sure you are using the right flux, too.
The local welding supply company will help you match up with what you are using.
I use Sta-silv with low melting silver solder.(melts at 365')
Any hotter and you ruin the temper of the blade.
