I was saddened to hear, from Steve D'Lack this morning, that Bob Lum passed away yesterday. He finally lost his long battle with cancer. I'm very sorry, we all will miss him, I am sure. Love and prayers go out to his family at this very difficult time.

Thanks for passing this along, Steve. I had known that this was imminent.

Yes, absolutely a pinnacle maker in the knifeworld, whose knives had really become VERY highly sought-after in the last few years. They will be ever more so now.

There wasn't a finer man on the planet. Calm and understanding, and especially knowledgable about photography (my dialogs with him.)

Bob won the Wooden Sword award in the 1983 Knives Annual. He goes back a lonnnng way.

My best to his family.

Sad news. I got to meet him once back in the early 80's, and I can still recall it clearly. I agree with you, Coop; a very nice man indeed, and he left an impression.

Rest in peace, Bob Lum.

Very sad to hear this. I didn't know Bob, but I knew his work. My thoughts are with his family. Rest in Peace.

I was fortunate enough to call Bob a good friend. He loved to camp and fish and was an excellent cook. One of my fondest memories is sitting next to a high desert lake early in the morning with a fire going. Bob whipped up a first class breakfast over an open fire, Denver Omellett and fried potatoes.

He was a first rate knife maker, but had so many other interests as well. Like most of us in the knife world he loved guns and anything to do with the outdoors. We had plans for a bird hunt this fall, but unfortunately in never happened. I'll miss him very much.

Bob's memorial service is this Saturday at 11:00 a.m.. If any of you think about it, please take a moment to remember Bob.
