Hi, I'm new to the group and interested in automatic knives. I was wondering if there is any information out there on custom making an OTF automatic as well as the standard auto. Also is there any information out there on the mechanics involved in an OTF?

Hi there, Chris Crawford has an excellent DVD on a Scale Release Automatic. Have a look at http://www.chriscrawfordknives.com/

Paul Panak of Florida has just begun manufacturing (and taking orders) for his custom OTF automatic knives.

Buy a cheapo OTF and take it apart.

These things are complex and it appears there is no available schematic that I have heard of. This question pops up year after year.

I've just registered for the first time, but I recently purchased a MicroTech UT-X85 and to this point am very pleased. They however do not come cheap.

How do custom knifemakers sell switchblades when it's illegal to cross state lines with it?

It's not completely illegal. If the recipient intends to use the switchblade for military purposes, it's perfectly legal with respect to Federal law.

Blade magazine did an article a few years ago showing schematics, try contacting them and see if theyre available.I have made one from copying one I purchased. It was a lot of measuring and blueprinting work.I doubt I could have done it without my mill and DRO setup. If your a newbie then your possibly biting off more then you can chew as OTF are the most difficult knives made. There is a reason that the few who make them for sale charge thousands. As for standard autos there are many ways to do them and tons of information out there if you spend some time searching through this and other forums.

I just took my conceal carry test for North Carolina- Got into studying knife laws along with the pistol laws- In North Carolina, the only person who can carry a switchbade legally is a ONE ARMED PERSON-funny

Exotic Automatics...this site has great pics of all styles of autos that have been taken apart, along with schematics for some others.
