Hello,

Since a customer asked for a sheath for his knife (a kit fron Texas Knife that has a recommended sheath) I thought that I would look through this forum for help. Boy, did I find it!!!! I tried looking through Tandy Leather for books on leather working in general but was left lacking. I have several books on knife making recommened in other forums but they only cover a very small area of sheath making. What books would you guys recommend for leather working? Sheath making books would be great but some place to start would be of help. When I thought about making knives I never gave sheaths a thought.

Thanks,
Drac

"How to Make Knives" by Barney and Loveless has an excellent section in it on making pouch-type sheaths. It's a great starting point.

I'm plugging the books pages on my website again :)

The Valerie Michael book is good but it doesn't deal with sheaths, just leather work generally. The Bergman book deals with Scandinavian sheaths. I haven't tried making those yet, they look much too hard.

I am sure Don is right though (he usually is), the Barney & Loveless book is nice.

I really like David Boye's book for just about everything related to making knives. It's got a great section about sheath making, and has some excellent pictures to go along with it. I just find his style suites me. It's a great book overall, and is a classic.

I think the Boye book does a good job as well. Also, from the top of the page here in the tutorials link is a link to a Bruce Evans tutorial which is very well done.
