I have done rear bolsters two ways.

1.) Peen both front and rear on and then fit scales between them (which is hard to get a tight fit, but it is possible).

2.) Peen on the fronts, apply the scales, and after they're set up, fit and peen the rear bolsters.

I'm curious how you guys do it.

Thanks,
Nick

I think that the cleanest way to do it is to attach both front and rear, and very carefully measure the resulting angle (there should be one, however slight- if they are dead square with each other, it is almost impossible to get a perfect fit).

The angle could vary slightly from one side of the knife to the other, so be careful to mark the scales for the proper side.

Lay out the angle you measured on an oversized piece of handle material (should be wider than the tang/liners by at least 1/4"), cut the handle material to your layout lines, and slide it into place- sort of a "wedge fit". Mark the excess for trimming, apply the epoxy, and glue it up.
