a friend of mine started slicing up some cocobolo we have had for many years. he cut at different angles and the colors and patterns are fantastic. i only wish i used wood more often. what i want to know is, does stabilizing keep the same colors the wood has now before it ages darker or sunlight changes it? i know that cocobolo gets very dark with age and handling but does stabilizing it keep it from changing color like that? if it does it would pay me to send this all out to be stabilized as it is gorgeous wood.

thanks for any input.

Tim- Cocobolo is one of those woods like ironwood that does not stabilize well, because it is dense and oily. Best bet is to finish out the handles, and then wipe them with Armorall before you wax them. This helps reduce the effects of ultraviolet light, which is part of what causes them to darken with age.
