This is the weekend for the GCKG's meeting. The meeting kicked off tonight with a get together at the shop of Charlie and Harry Mathews (TwinBlades) . The wives of these guys are great hostesses and always make Charlie and Harry look good. I really had a good time tonight and look forward with anticipation to tomorrow.

Since John died it is a little hard for me to attend meetings and tonight was no exception. But no matter how hard it is to gear myself to go, when I get there it is just like "going home" and being among family. I missed the guys firing up the forges--by the time I arrived supper was being devoured. John really loved the Georgia Guild and getting to know the knifemakers across the state.

Nothing sets a soul more at ease than to have Jim Small greet you with that big bear hug he gives. Jim doesn't like me to say it and is to modest to admit it but there would not have been a John Poythress-Knifemaker had it not been for him. If John was his "son" in knifemaking then this great southern gentleman must be proud to see the number of "grandchildren" he has following in the footsteps.

I will always treasure the support and friendship Jim, Carl, John, the Mathews, and all the guys and wives of the guild give me.

I can't remember all that is to go on tomorrow but I do know there will be a demo on tapering tangs and how to dove-tail. And of course there will be knives galore and proud craftsmen showing them off. Of course I will take a couple of John's with the real treat being able to show the the katana John was working on before he died. I got it back from the Jones Brothers a couple of weeks ago. They finished tying off the handle and put an edge on it; then Tommy McNabb put John's logo on the piece. This piece holds the special memories of our grandson, Avery, getting interested in going into the knife shop with John. Avery loved seeing the sparks come off this piece when John ground on it. Avery is very proud to have "his sword" home.

If you can make it, we'd love to have you in Statesboro tomorrow for the meeting.
