I am far from an expert on swords. My brother just picked this one up at an auction and sent me some pics. I haven't even seen it yet, much less touched it, but he is interested in what style it is, and if anyone knows the maker. Any hints would be appreciated.

I'm intregued by the little bead of brass on the top edge. Maybe uses in sighting before throwing? Hopefully someone will have the answer. Roc would have known.

It looks like a SE Asian dha, Carl.
Check at this link, especially the 'dha research index" and look at the swords there.

Mike, that sure looks to be the general style. I will have to run a little more research to see if I can trace it down to a more specific area. I want to get this in my hands and see what it is like too. I will try and take a couple of good pictures of it when I do.

I believe it's a Burmese Dha. I have a couple that are very similar, but not as nice.
OK, found this

Looks to have the same "S" style marks on the blade. Anyone know what they are? Still trying to track an image down that is close. I am pretty sure that it is a Dha, now to track the location in Southeast Asia down.

Both of mine look like the one in the picture you found (see below). One is almost exactly the same, the other has a wire wrapped handle.

The marks could just be decorative, or they could be Burmese letters (http://www.omniglot.com/writing/burmese.htm)(or some other alphabet).
Consonants:

Vowels and vowel diacritics:

Omniglot.com (http://www.omniglot.com/writing/index.htm) list a whole bunch of alphabets from around the world. (That's were I found the Burmese stuff.)
