I had this question under someone else's thread over on the newbie board, but I figure more would see it here...
I have two spools of carbon fiber material. This stuff is much more brittle than fiberglass in it's "raw" state. Has anyone here tried making their own CF slabs? I was going to use a standard high quality polyester resin. Would an epoxy be better? I figured the polyester polishes better, but the epoxy stands up to chemicals better. What is used with commercial CF?
Anyone try weaving this stuff? I was planning on doing a basic linen/canvas weave. I figured that would be easiest. Has anyone messed with forming this stuff by hand? Maybe I'll get a "damascus" pattern in my slabs! :)
Any thoughts or shared experiences?
