I am trying to make my first folding knife. I maybe should start with a friction folder, but I am going to try and make a backspring or a liner lock. The problem I am having is the
"PPSPPP" Pivot pin stop pin placement problem! can any one give me any tips, guidence, sympathy, anything.I know I am close but something is missing. Thanks Paul

Invest in "The Tactical Folding Knife" by Bob Terzuola, and read the section on knife design and geometry. Not at all something you can do by the seat of your pants.

Paul I agree with Don.
When I am designing a new folder I do it all on paper first, I start with the handle shape and when I'm doing the blade and lock mechanism I use drafting film as an overlay. I prick thru the pivot pin with a needle and pivot the blade in the handle, that way I can see if I've got the stop pin in the correct position and the rear on the tang is within the handle in the closed position etc.,etc.
I have most of the publications on folder making and they all give you some pointers on what to look out for.

Paul don't you know by now that I am running a full service shop?
Come over this weekend and let Ole Dad give you a little guidance.
I will even do a little swapping. I will show you about pin placements and you can give my new auto design a good cussing for me.

Thanks for all of your help. Dave I should have known that you would not let this hang out there very long. I will be seeing you soon. Paul

Paul
I don't know if you have access to c.a.d but if you have it is very handy.
I use auotcad and you can draw your knife and then rotate the blade and see exactly what you need to do you can also change it with a few mouse movement.
if you can find it then it may help you.
All the best
Alan
