Asking for your help in choosing a liner thickness in both Aluminum and Titanium. When do you use more and when do you use less. Thank you in advance for your responses.

JPD Mike Sader 03-11-2002, 02:46 PM JPD, I'm new at this stuff too but I'm learning from Dwayne Dushane and we talked a little about this, He uses .040 Ti on small knives and .050 on about 3" and up. Linerlocks anyway. Like I say I'm new too but this is the way I understand it from Dwayne. Hope it helps,Mike Jason G Howell 03-11-2002, 03:34 PM Dead on Mike. .050 for me. .040 is marginal for strength, and .032 or less I'd say has no place on a knife. Tell Dwayne I said hi. neil charity 03-11-2002, 05:46 PM For what it's worth I like Jason use .050" material for all my folders. Regards from Australia. Mike Sader 03-11-2002, 05:49 PM Jason, I will & one of these days I'm gonna get to meet some of you guys that he runs down so bad!!! :) Really do want to meet guys like you and Johnny and want to get to some hammerins too!! Later, Mike Peter Atwood 03-12-2002, 05:41 AM You can use any thickness you want. Some makers use up to .090 for liner locks (think Buck Strider). Jot Singh Khalsa has used .032 in some of his fancy Persian style pieces with success. I'm using .090 for my gentlemen's framelocks and .125 and up for heavy duty knives. Aluminum is too soft be used for locks but can be made into frames and handles. | |
