Hi
I am useing a grizzly grinder and when I am in the hollow
or starting the hollow the belt want to moves across the face
of the wheel when I put any pressure on the wheel when moving across the wheel it moves the belt right or left
it happens with new and old belts if anyones know what might be the problem I would like some input on the problem.
Thanks Nathan

Nathan,

I also use a grizzly and would say that it is almost certainly belt tension. Your idler wheel is crowned and being so will automatically try to keep the belt centered on the high spot of the crown with enough tension on the belt. You might also deglaze the drive pulley with a piece of fine sandpaper and a flat backing plate [just be careful to only remove any glazing and not much of the rubber].

Hope this helps.

It sounds like belt tension or a loose wheel.(bearings)

Tension is probably the first place to look. How old is the grinder? The "crown" can flatten out.

A "stop-gap" method is to wrap a few rounds (2or 3) of 1" masking tape around the center of the drive wheel and that will "center" the belt, sometimes. Perhaps re-crown if necessary. I've used the tape before and it's solved the problem.

The wheel on the Griz is relatively soft.I have had the tension so tight that I could barely get the belt on and it would still walk sometimes.May want to get a harder contact wheel if nothing else works.

Dull belts have a tendency to do that, too.
They wear spots down and then roll around on the machine looking for a place to take a bite. When it bites, it shoots the paper over even more.

Geno and Mr Koller
I think you both hit the nail on the head I think the wheels that come on them are about 45 or 50 duro.
I tried a 3m 967 on the grinder and it did not move
it tracked great and jumped into the hollow
I think I am going to get a new wheel ,I dress the one I have
with a file and it seems to be grinding even on both side.
I have a blade done I am waiting for Geno to give me the ok
for him to heat treat it for me
Thanks for the help Nathan
