Must admit I didn't research this one before posting the picture. Maybe VOGL will be recognized by someone, maybe not.

This one seems to have some age to it - and it's beat up pretty bad. The butt cap is missing, unfortunately - and the blade has been abused. Probably a desk knife or lady's knife that ultimately fell into the hands of a child who turned it into what I call S. H. I. T. (Super High Intensity Trash). Anybody who has kids, especially boys, knows what I'm talkin' about. Any thoughts on this one?

I found this but who knows if it's related..... It's a book.

"George Vogl, Toolmaker by H.E. Huttig
LT p.104
\people \tools\hand
Vogl was a toolmaker who specialized in violin making hand tools. These three small pieces sketch what life was like for one group of Europeans after WWII reduced their life to a near pre-industrial state. And since violinmakers have always had a pre-industrial mindset, they got along quite well. With 1 illustration of old tools."

And this.... Item sold in March of 2005 through Bonhams.

"Lot No: 131
An 18th Century brass universal dial,
And. Vogl.
The hinged chapter ring centred by a folding needle gnomon over a latitude arc on an octagonal base with recessed compass base, in the remnants of the original box, with the original list of 120 European towns with their latitudes on one side, and instructions for using the instrument on the reverse in French and German, 5.5cm high." Sold for 380 pounds British, plus premium and tax - no picture available.

And after checking more closely...... Vogl could be short for Vogler - see below.

VOGLEN see Vogler. Evans 1.

Nice old Knicker knife. I have a small collection, half dozen plus a few. I don't have a Vogl. but I have seen several examples with that name. A bavarian sock knife. EDC, hunter, utility, all purpose. Very old pattern and still made today by Linder. Counter part to the Scotish Sigian Dubh. Those old sheaths are cool as they are made with thin leather over pressboard like the old Sheffield bowie sheaths. So having one you can see firsthand how they were constructed. Here is a pic of an E.G. Wusthoff. I don't care for it much as I am not a shiney knife guy.

I like the old beatup carbons like these two below. The more knarly and twisted the stag, the better. I feel fortunate to have the little mini that someone just sent me as a bonus when I bought a bigger one. What a nice surprise.

No well dressed alpine hiker is complete without a knicker knife tucked into his leder hosen.

As Roc allowed, Linder still makes them. This one is supposedly from the seventies, and the stag and fittings are VERY cool.

It's a mini Med Bowie with an integral guard.... :)

Buddy, that's a nice little 'user' with a LOT of history buried in it. :bow

Hey, you guys are cood dudes! I appreciate the education and information. That's neat that you both have these. I would've never guessed what it really was. Too bad mine's such a mess. I wish it was in better shape. Maybe it'll go in the "restoration some day" pile. Might make a fun project. Can I assume that the value of something like mine is pretty minimal?

I would think they would have at least some value. To me they're interesting knives. I had not heard of them before, much less seen one. I'll be on the lookout now for sure! Buddy, you can put that in your "To Robert" box, I think that makes 3 now. The box should hold nearly 25 knives, and I'm very, very patient.

Don't get me started, cuz I could go on and on and get into my wish list of Knicker maker pics, or start posting my half finished ones in all stages of.... hey ever see one made by Puma? you can tell Puma made em' just by looking at them. Naw, I notice I start boring people and they wander off. heehee. They use to be pretty cheap on ebay, especially when they are listed by someone who don't know the name. Not anymore. Buddy could expect to pull a bill if he put it up there as a knicker knife.

Nice!
The middle (big) and right ones are very cool.
I saw a site that had knicker blades and hardware for the do it yourselfers.
Tempting...very tempting.

Did you find those old timers on Ebay?
The patina'd carbon blades are the best.
:D
