It has no HP rating. It is rated at 9 Amps and 220 Volts. I read somewhere that 1hp = approx 740 Watts. So, if 9x220 is 1980Watts, and 1980/740 is 2.7, is it 2.7hp?

Bob Warner 10-09-2001, 12:53 PM 1HP = 746 watts, and voltage X Amps = watts For your motor, 220V current X 9 amps = 1980 watts 1980 watts divided by 746 watts (1HP) = 2.65 HP Just because something is rated at say 5hp it really does mean that it is 5HP. It could PEAK at 5HP so the manufacturer rates it at 5HP. It could reach 5HP and then melt on you. If you can draw more amps, by the formula the HP would go up. If I were to make a guess on your motor, I would say 3 HP is probably the rating due to the higher amp draw under load and the manufacturer is trying to make the HP as high as possible. It is probably 2.5HP in reality. SIGGI 10-09-2001, 01:12 PM I have a calculator for electrical formulas and it comes up with 3.7 HP. This would be max HP, so I agree with Bob that actual HP is between 2.5 & 3. Bob Sigmon Is the motor 1phase or 3 phase? Kevin Miller 10-09-2001, 03:58 PM 1, I think. DC KNIVES 10-09-2001, 05:46 PM My hoists motors at work are the following,1 hp 8 amps at 220v,and 2 hp Leeson at 10 amps.I would say 1.5hp.Dave | |
