I use my forge but I know that a lot of people use Paragon (http://www.paragonweb.com) heat treat furnaces. They are located in Mesquite, Texas (Dallas area). They are a very well known source in the knifemaking community with a great reputation.

I use an Evenheat with the Rampmaster controller. Very happy with it.

Pup,

There are only two manufacturors for electric heat treat ovens:
Paragon & Evenheat. Both will do a very satisfactory job. If you are planning on purchasing an oven, I would recommend that you spend a little extra and get one with digital controls. The extra money is well worth it.

I'm in the market for a new oven myself as my current oven is too old and too small. I've checked out both Paragon and Evenheat units. The Evenheat is priced better and the digital controller seems to have everything you could need and more. Their URL is www.evenheat-kiln.com (http://www.evenheat-kiln.com)

Even Heat is solid.
Never heard of a problem, (any problem) with evenheat ovens.
Paragon is a good unit, but both the guys I know who have one, have had to replace the heating eliments.
The digital control is WONDERFUL.

I've had my paragon for six or seven years now. I bought the 24" deep one. I could have gotten by with the smaller 110 unit. My only complante with it is it takes too long to cool off to use at the lower heat treating temps. Most of the time I use it now I do my hardening with the forge and do the draws in the oven. Got it mainly when I was doing alot of stainless and need to hold high temps for longer periods of time. If your going to be doing high carbon steels and not stainless you could live without one. Most guys will use kitchen ovens or most common is the old toaster ovens. Old toaster oven, under $5.00. Smallest Paragon oven, $1000., I'm not sure what the price on the other brand is but there close to the same price. Ray

A year or so back I got an email from a co. called Suger Creek (i believe t was anyway). Athe the time they had a web site, but I can't find it for the life-0-me now. The kilns looked pretty good and so did their prices, but I don't think they had digital controls. Best I can remember they were octagon shaped, and had long and short models without much of a price difference.
I hear tell that Koval's has them in their new catalog and just ordered the new catalog so I can look into these a bit more.

Hey Don, Which model Evenheat oven did you get ?. The 13 1/2 " deep or deeper?. Does it have the Rampmaster II Controller?. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.T.I.A.

The 13 1/2" deep with the Rampmaster controller is what I have.
