I am hoping someone can advise me on this. I am stumped. Anyway, here is the story.
My DC grinder went caput on me. Prior to that, it had stopped working 3 times on me, but would restart a few seconds later. This all happened in a span of about 5 minutes and the grinder wasn't even running long enough to get warm.
So I checked all my connections and replaced the fuses in the controller. Nothing. I checked the power coming into the unit. Good. Being curious, I used a test light (fusible link) to crossover power to the motor. It powered the motor, but only at a constant speed. Now, the reason I am stumped is because I did this on the output side of the controller. I first assumed a ground problem, but why would it not work in variable speed? Not sure why now, but I thought the problem may have been in the rheostat, so I replaced it. No dice. Well, I am conviced that the controller is the culprit, but want to make sure first. Any ideas?
TIA,
Brett
