HI BRET,
the vice was necessary to hold the folder blades.after i made the belt grinder i ground up 10 blades hence the knives.I have made 8 so far ,it keeps me occupied in the off season{fly fishing}.made a few stuff ups but am getting the hang of it now.Getting the indent in the blades in the right place was a bit of a problem also broken cobalt drills when drilling indent hole in the hardened blade.
All part of the learning curve.
regards DANIEL.

Daniel, when doing the D-tent for the ball use either a carbide or a diamond bit in a flex shaft. You'll find that it works great even if not used for anything else. Me I use my high speed handpiece to do the job but most folks don't have that type of equipment, but most do have a flex shaft. You want ti get the small dental type bits 1/16 inch shank a small round or elongated oval bit will do the job. The best way to do it is once the folder frame is togather and the d-tent hole drilled use a very fine sharpie to mark the blade for the d-tent indentation. take everything apart and hold by hand you'll find that you will have better control over cutting the indentation into the blade than if you were to place it in a vice, or clamp.
I hope that this will help you in your future endevors.
By the way the knives look really good.
