View Full Version : My homage to my mentor, Mt. Mike
Progunner 06-04-2006, 11:24 PM I have learned a good deal from Mike since making my first sheath a few years back. I figured I would try one in his preferred style and I really like it. I rarely get to make one for one of my own knives, but this one begged for it. I think this is my best one yet. What say you Mike? :D

rhrocker 06-05-2006, 07:30 AM Mike's a super artist! He made a beautiful sheath for me last year, based on Sandy's Unique cross-snap pattern (sorry, don't the proper name). It really accented a Dave Kelly knife I was fortunate enough to be given
Thanks Mike and Dave!
MtMike 06-05-2006, 09:35 AM Gunner, that is just superb ! I'll proudly take credit for a suggestion or two, but the outstanding craftsmanship is all yours :D You'll be carying that SJ in style for many, many years!! I love that coke-bottle waist, realy classy !
I also checked out your homepage pics, you've got a great collection going, buddy. Just wait til your friends start bugging you to make sheaths for their pieces, if they haven't already !!
I've said it before, and it bears saying again: I received tremendous encouragement and instruction from several masters here over the past 5 years or so, and I'm pleased to be able to pass on even a little of it. Bravo Zulu Gunner :)
Mike
Progunner 06-05-2006, 10:00 AM Thanks for the kind words brothers, Mike I thought you would like that coke bottle type curve. Like I said, I don't make many for myself, but I have made a few for fellow Busse collectors. I just wish I had more time to do them, I would probably have a lot more work to do. :D
DC KNIVES 06-05-2006, 07:51 PM Gunner , great work and you are fortunate to have such a talented mentor.I feel blessed that Mike is one of my good friends and we are still learning from each other.I just got off the phone to my mentor Sandy for some tips on a sheath job I am working on. Keep up the great work and pass on your tips and show us some more good stuff.Dave:)
jimanddianaa 06-08-2006, 06:00 PM After all that cr_p about trade marks I was starting to wonder about all of this. Since then only great has come my way. Thanks to Mike & "The Little Cobbler " here in my home town I will become a SHEATH MAKER.
TOUSJOURS ou JAMAIS
sheathmaker 06-08-2006, 09:04 PM jimanddiannaa; That "trade mark" thread was almost a year ago and as I recall several of us here( Sandy, Chuck Burris, MtMike, and me "sheathmaker") offered an open ended invitation to any one to contact any or all of us with questions and/or for advice. I'd bet my last dollar that the invitation stands today just as strong as it did then. My contact information is either in my signature line or in the member profile. Feel free to email or call me any time. Glad to help if I can.

Andrew Garrett 06-08-2006, 10:12 PM Love that kilt brother! (bet you though no one would notice, ehh?) I just goy one in the mail yesterday from Utilikilts!
The sheath work is great and the convex grind on that knife is awesome!
MtMike 06-08-2006, 10:41 PM If you've got the legs for it Andy :101

Progunner 06-09-2006, 03:51 PM You are the first one to mention it Andy. I have three and I wear them all quite often. I am getting to hate pants, especially in the summer time. I'll probably take a couple with me to Blade for after the show attire. I wish I could take credit for the knife, but that baby is Busse work all the way.
Hey, Andy, do you hang out at the Kansas City Ren Fair in Bonner Springs? My wife & I like to go to it on Labor Day weekend. When we lived up there we had season passes.
Jim
Andrew Garrett 06-09-2006, 07:07 PM Never been to that one. We have a Ren fair here in Wichita that I make every couple of years. Fun!
I've actually given thought to making a few kits for myself.
Hot&CoaledForge 06-11-2006, 12:33 PM Beautiful work, Gunner. I really like that style sheath, and you sure did it proud. - Jim
