I'm a black/bladesmith from Québec. I've been checking the forum for a while now and decided to hop in and show you some of my work.
This is a scramasax with a 1018/W1 san mai blade, copper-wrougth iron and bird eye maple handle.

I was told by some that this scramasax wasn't as historical as could be because of the metallic "guard". For me the added benefit of srenght was important...
What do you think?
I like the "historical inspiration", gives a bit more freedom!

I live in Trois-Rivières, wich is 1h30 from Montréal, going east.
I didn't tought you were so near! We organize a hammerin at the end of august, if you happened to pass by. I'll keep everyone informed.
By the way, do you happen to know a certain Jean-François? Tall guy, lived in Danemark for a few years, great tatoo on his back ( a beehive I think?).
He was at the hammerin and told me he made a course with you....

Oh, yes, I remember Jean-François. He had worked at an experimental archeology institute doing leather work:

He met Eric Reime, who does tattooes by hand, among other things. He is the only other person I know who is doing full body Norse style tattoos, and I even considered going to him for mine until Juli came along.

The smelt would sure be interesting!

The hammerin is being held the last weekend of august. Right now it is a one day event, we'll see how it goes this year to make it two days.
It's free (so if thing don't go as planned nobody can complain:D!! )
It is not a selling event, but makers are invited to bring pieces along to share (a guy last year brought back from Afghanistan really nice pieces, Kyber knives hummmm...).
Last year there was a demo on tsukamaki by Jean-Rock Fortin, scrimshaw presentation by Géatan Beauchamp, forging by Denis Lebel (a very talented traditional smith)
Christophe Deringer frustrated a lot of people showing how easy it was to forge an integral blade from a ball bearing:p , I made a small bloom furnace and there was the cutting fest (2X4, rope ect.)
This year we'll probably have less demos but longer ones, it was too much last year, peolple were having trouble keeping the pace.
To reassure everyone, almost everybody speaks english!!!

I'll keep you informed as the organizing goes if you wish.
