Quick question: Can one use buffing medium as a polishing agent on a sanding disk?

Steve, I lost your note on alternate materials that I could use for a sanding medium. I remember beeswax, but I know there were others.

I saw a compound today that was to be used on a buffing wheel, but I don't have the specs yet. It was green, but who knows what it really is.

Thanks!

You only need the grease on the very fine grits, 600x-800x on, with the cork or Alox belts, to keep things cooler and to make the belts last longer and give a bit more of a polish. Try that compound first, it might be just the ticket, or it might be too coarse. Any oil, grease would probably help, if what I use is not available. Try beeswax, axle grease, Crisco, WD-40, you'll have to experiment. Melt some beeswax and mix some grease in with it? In the circumstances which you find yourself, you'll have to adapt in any way you can, or pay exorbitant shipping fees to get the right stuff there, I guess. Might need some good luck, too!
