I looking for various ways to make the notches on the thumb rest part of the blade and the part of the lock you push to release the lock. Any suggestions ?

Yes, a 00 checkering file. Available at most of the knife supply places like Sheffields. Most any place that sells high quality files could probably get them too . Pricey, about $25 each .......

I have been using my bandsaw to cut my traction grooves for a thumb rest.

For my lock bar I just use a small round file. I just got a 20 lpi checkering file, but I haven't used it yet.
