Chris Meyer 03-18-2006, 02:17 PM The Lansky system works well, but it can be quite tedious since the stones are small. I would recommend getting their coarse diamond stone too. It will help you get a burr on each side of the blade a little faster. sdb777 05-14-2006, 06:19 AM What do you think about Lansky's "STANDARD 3 STONE SHARPENING SYSTEM". Any expiriance? I for one enjoy using the Lansky System. Very simple to set-up and the angle of the stone to blade is always constant. A big plus in maintaining a properly sharp edge. Also reduces the chances of "marking" the knife blade in the non-working area. Not sure what color stones are in the 3-stone system, but in the 5-stone system....you end up using the green, blue, red the most. They wear out quite rapidly, I'm going to buy stock in the company that makes the stones! Scott B McAhron 05-14-2006, 07:54 PM I hate mine.Once I learned to sharpen on 3x8 diamond hones I've never looked back. Cord Nipper 10-24-2006, 07:55 PM First Lansky kit I had was the basic three stone. Course (Red), Medium (Green), and Fine (Blue). I bought it in the service and carried everywhere with me. During FTXs I'd pull it out and sharpen knives for people just to pass the time. I've got a five stone kit now. I also purchased the "sapphire" stone as well. Lanksy does wonders for me in putting and maintaining an edge on a blade. The one negative thing about the Lansky is the screw/guide rod connection. If you don't tighten it enough the rod will work loose. Over tighten and the plastic prematurely wears and will eventually break. motorhead 10-26-2008, 08:24 PM i love mine. 5 stone set. i'd like to add arkansas and diamond stones someday. injunwil 06-03-2009, 09:31 AM i really like my 5 stone set and Lansky is an AWESOME company to deal with, if you have a problem or need something. i do NOT like the system, at all, for sharpening anything over a 4-5" blade. if you're sharpening mid sized folder, you'll probably be very happy with it. the black stone (in the 5 stone kit) makes creating a new edge fairly easy. | |
