Although I'm not in any position to buy, I've started watching a few auctions a week on the 'bay to see if I can learn anything. I'm curious about 6607320520. It seems pretty low, compared to other #5's from the same time frame that I've seen. Is that a reflection of the sub-mint condition of the knife and sheath or does it have something to do with the handle material or what?
Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Hi Jerry!
The photo is very poor, so it's difficult to see the knife and sheath properly. However, it "looks" like it is probably a late 70's knife. As to the condition, it's impossible to tell.
eBay is a very good school for learning about Randalls. You don't have to buy, you can just watch the "exhibits" go by, and eventually you acquire a certain amount of knowledge about the myriad of models possibilities in existence and current after-market prices.
However, I would warn folks not to rely solely on eBay for their Randall knowledge. That's why it's great to have this forum, where people in the know (or somewhat in the not know - like me) are willing to share their knowledge and experience about all aspects of RMK.
Cheers!

Hi Jerry,
There is nothing that "special" about the knfe:
1. It is post Vietnam era (Doesn't have the 7 spacer set).
2. It is not a fighting knife.
3. It is not mint (has been sharpened)
4. The sheath has had the pouch removed.
Net-net it would not appeal to most collectors. It would, however, make a great versatile user that has some class because it's about 25 years old.
Best,
Ron

...In addition to watching the things that David mentioned after you watch awhile you start figuring out who is who in the world of Ebay Randall knife collecting. I have learned enormously from watching what the serious collectors bid.
