Do you quench three times and then draw back three times or do you quench draw, quench draw, quench draw? I have been quenching once and then draw back three times. Edge retention is ok but needs to be improved, overall blade is to soft as indicated by no return after 90 bend tests. (5160) Thanks in advance.

I do all three quenches, then go to the temper (three times here too)
As for the return after the 90 degree flex, if you achieve a return to around 45 degrees, that's excellent!
You can adjust the "springiness" by increasing the depth of the quench. On 5160 I have quenched to within 3/8" of the spine, and still passed the 90 degree flex. I was a real booger to bend......had to use a piece of pipe over the handle as a cheater!
