i got this bear mgc butterfly knife http://worldwideknives.com/butterfly/BC113GR.jpg
as my realy cheap super knife broke. now the problem with this knife is tha tit has pins instead of screws. this is not to bad of a problem, except that i would like to put a spacer on the latch to keep the handles from smacking together to badly. any ideas on how i can do this? (i dont have a drill press, so dont suggest anything like that.)

I'm not 100% sure I follow you [WoodWalker]..., but if you are talking about the impact of the handles as the knife swings open or closed..., I'd cut a piece of very hard rubber, and force-fit it into one channel just above the latch.

Leave enough protruding so you can sand/file it down until <almost> flush.., then heat the protruion just enough so you can form the softened rubber just over the lip of the channel ~~> thus acting like a "bumper".

This works on some of the Bears because they tend to be a little loose, latched open or closed.

That's what I'd try as a "No-Tools" solution....

I should also add.., that if you plan this carefully.., and see EXACTLY where the blade tip falls in the closed position, you can also form yourself a nice "latchgate" in the process.

That will keep the latch from travelling beyond perpendicular to the channel.., and protect your blade from latch contact. I don't think that Bear model has one....?? Can't remember....
