I don't have any problems soldering brass or nickel guards to carbon steel blades(l-6 and 1084-950. I have a hell of a time getting solder to flow on stainless. Whays the best solder and flux to use??

TJ,what type of ss are you trying to solder?300 series is much harder to solder,(almost impossible, for me at least)than 400 series.Do your final prep just before soldering, clean all, to be soldered surfaces with laquer thinner or acetone, then wash them with a good detergent,I use 409 some use TSP,use a clean lint free towel to dry, then go for it.Some have touted eutectic solder, but I have never had a problem with Sta Brite,at least on 416 ss.Stainless can form a film if left sitting too long, hence the do it all at once above.Hope this helps a little.

TJ,
Check S. R. Johnson's Forum page 2 for an excellent tutorial on soldering SS.
