Has anyone ever had a batch of bad propane ? My forge was working great until I filled my tank again. It will barely get to a red heat. Maybe something happened when I ran the tank till empty. Any ideas ?

I think it is butane that collects in the bottom of propane tanks, but may be something else. I know when I lived in the true north the tank filling retailers always turned the tanks upside down with the tap open to empty them. ghostdog Ed Caffrey 07-07-2001, 04:54 PM I've heard of this happening in the past, but have not experienced myself. Ghostdog is right about the butane, but moisture may also be a problem. I would question your supplier and see if they have any ideas. If they are like mine, I suspect they would do what it takes to keep you as a customer. dennis2 07-08-2001, 09:01 AM Thanks guys. With the price of propane lately, this could get upsetting. But I'd rather have bad propane than something wrong with my forge. genechapman 07-08-2001, 10:18 PM I have a venturi burner that has no filter. Several times over the years some bit of dust or debris got into the tint outlet nozzlehole. A quick cleaning with a tiny wirebrush wire and a jet of HP air got rid of the problem. I think commercial nozzles have a filter to stopdust. Just a thought. Gene C. | |
