Ed, In one of your post on another thread you mentioned a new steel called SUJ-2. Please give us more details on this steel. Where can a person get some of it to play with?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

The composition of SUJ-2 is identical to 52100. The difference is that is it a vaacum melt steel. This makes the steel VERY clean. In fact when I was first forging the stuff, I was concerned, simply because I was used to seeing a lot of scale on the anvil, nearly none with this stuff. The only place to get it is straight from Japan. I've been corresponding with a bladesmith over there, and he sent me two (22mm) round bars. I first created a test blade, and since I've found out how well it performs, I'm going to see if the individual can get some more. It might be one of those things where, this is all I'll get for now, but why not try?
