I would like to know how a "holiday" dreamed up by a felon serving time in the big house during the 1960's can even be named in the same sentence as Christmas and Hanuka. I don't think it is credible and gives "seperatists" something to rally behind. So what I am saying in layman's terms is, what a joke!! What's next, celebrating "Tookie" Williams birthday as a national holiday?

Hi Crutchtip!

I'm afraid I thought Kwanzaa was some sort of Arfrican holiday with a very long tradition when I made my post. It was only a couple of days later when I put it in Google that I discovered what it actually is, and how obviously controversial it can be. :embarasse

Sorry about that sports fans! :anon

Cheers!

This amazes me. Don't want to step on any toes but you guys need to read more. You can't take the s**t your local fishwrap prints as anything but left wing propaganda. You gotta dig for information, it is out thereif you look. You are not gonna get it from most newspapers, CBS, ABC, NBC, Clinton News Network, etc. If you gotta watch televsion news, do yourself a favor and at least watch FOX.

That is exactly what the liberal media would like you to believe, that kwanza is some ancient African celebration. I am not sure but think the guy the dreamed it up was in for manslaughter. So now this ####### is a hero. Nobody takes the time to say "Hey, wait a minute, let me see what this thing is."

Raindog
12-21-2005, 10:27 PM
Actually, I pretty much ignored kwanza as something that I don't give a rat's patootie about, much as I don't care about the Freaknik thing that they have in Atlanta. The only thing that I want to know about it is the date so I know to avoid metro Atlanta even more so than normal.

It's an interesting tidbit to know now but I pretty much assumed a live and let live attitude towards the occasion. If Icelanders wanted to celebrate the season and call it Bjork-Abba, I would give it about as much thought.

I have quit trying to not offend everyone but have also learned to treat everyone like they may be God in disguise, on earth for a vacation. In other words, I won't kiss anyone/groups' butt but I am not going to trash what they decide to believe in either, even if it might be some stupid, made-up trash, in my eyes.

Lighten' up Frances! :drama:

My goodness aren't we a little touchy here?!? All that was said was Happy Kwanzaa, It's not like it was suggested we go celebrate and knock off a couple of the MAN's store's!:doubleenf

I've been told all week Happy whatever the Heathen holiday is regarding the stars, moon and etc... I just take it like it was meant... a joke. So, let's all just sit back, take a deep breath and enjoy the Holidays!:tea:

Merry CHRISTmas to all and please remember the REAL reason for the season!!!

By the way Moose, what exactly is Boxing Day in Canada? (celebrated on Dec. 26th this year)

Moosehead,
I've never seen a single episode of Seinfeld, yet I know about the Festivus. Guess you just can't get away from it. Not a big deal one way or the other.

As I'm sitting here watching a short line of cars drive slowly past looking at my lights, I wanted to drop in and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year.

Sorry I haven't been around much, but I started grad school this fall and it has been keeping me out of trouble (i.e. less time to surf the dealers for new Randalls). I think of you all often and take every moment I have to drop in on you all.

Hi Scott! Here's a very succinct write up on Boxing Day which I found on Google, amongst 2,370,000 results on Canada's pages:

"By Davinia Yip

Nowadays when we think of “Boxing Day,” the word “sale” almost immediately follows. After all, December 26 is the day when stores dramatically reduce the prices of their year-end merchandise and thus attract throngs of eager shoppers who would storm the malls in a frenzied mission to snatch up bargains. As exciting as this may be, it is important that we remember the true spirit behind this special day and not neglect its rich history.

The Boxing Day tradition began in Britain possibly as early as in the Middle Ages; with regards to its origin, there are two main schools of thought. Some historians maintain that it began as a holiday tradition where house servants, who always had to work on Christmas days, were rewarded the day after. Their employers would put gifts such as food, clothing, or money in “Christmas boxes,” which the servants would then take with them as they departed for family visits. Others say that Boxing Day is so named because churches collected money for the poor in wooden boxes and usually opened them to hand out alms on the day after Christmas. Today, Boxing Day is celebrated in most of the other English-speaking countries that include Canada, Australia and New Zealand, the United States being a notable exception.

The spirit of generosity surrounding this day is best exemplified by the fact that December 26 is also St. Stephen’s Day. St. Stephen was one of the seven original deacons in the Christian Church. He was stoned to death by an angry mob for his devoted piety and faith in Christ. As he expired in a slow and painful death, St. Stephen uttered a powerful prayer in which he begged God to forgive his persecutors. Many consider him to be the first martyr.

Boxing Day is therefore much more than a fun day at the mall; it is meant to be a day of giving and sharing, and of charity and appreciation in an extension of seasonal joy."

It's funny though, I always thought Boxing Day was what happens after one wakes up on the 26th and realizes just how much one has spent on their credit card. :punchself

By the way the sales usually suck on Boxing Day, but the crowds bite. :tea:

On behalf of all of us, thanks for your good wishes!

It's always good to hear from you, and I'm delighted that you too have never watched an episode of Seinfeld! :cheer2:

Sounds like you are lit up so Santa can't miss you this year.

After the rest, study hard and make us proud!

I am not easily offended and don't know if that is actually what my feelings were but I don't see where a "holliday" dreamed up by a convicted felon while he is sitting in the iron bar hotel some 40 years ago qualifies to be mentioned in the same breath as Christmas and Hannuka. I would think you would be in aggreement. Moose wasn't "joking" because he didn't even know what kwanza is, which in my opinion is nothing more than designed to create divisiveness among certain groups of Americans . Probably what it boils down to is exactly what the title of the thread reads PC, and I for one have had it up to my eyeballs with that bulls**t! Whew, glad I got that off my chest.

Outside of that, Merry Christmas and Happy Hannuka, whatever your persuasion.

Crutchtip,

No Moose didn't mean it as a joke, I said what was said to me about the Winter Solstice was meant to be a joke, But, Moose wasn't trying to offend anybody or get anybody riled up either. Don't take Moose's ignorance (no offense David), on the subject as a call to celebrate. I just thought your reply was a bit harsh. Although I know more than probably anybody around the forums that you shoot from the hip no matter what the subject. I was trying to make light of your reply, maybe I stepped out of bounds though if I'm the only one who took your reply this way. If so, my apologies for dragging this subject on!:blah:

I was raised a poor black child, and I know of NO-ONE who celebrates this holiday. Maybe it's an inner-city thing, I don't know...anyhoo...

Have a great holiday to all!!!:peace:

Hi Crutchtip, Dirty Water et all!

I have to admit I never expected this thread to take the tack it did, but it has been very enlightening, making me realize that I should have known what I was doing before I did it. :sorry:

Of course this wouldn't be the first time I've done such a thing. That's why I own a pair of foam rubber tipped boots for those self-propelled trips around the block. :banghead

I don't know how many of you have been following this other thread on the Knife Network Community forum:

http://www.knifenetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32541

But if you take (or waste) the time to read through it, you'll see what inspired me to try and head out in a different direction and wish everyone a VERY HAPPY CELEBRATION!, in the true meaning of peace and friendship, regardless your faith (or lack thereof). :woohoo

David (and your other mods) :tea:

P.S. No offense taken from anybody.

I have heard of Boxing Day (December 26). But being a dumb@$$ redneck from Deep East Texas I thought it when you boxed up the stuff you got on Christmas Day (December 25) that you didn't want and took it back to Sears or J.C.Penney..:becky:

Merry Christmas Jeff!
I am still struggling to get stills and video taken of mine. The link you posted was for Carson Williams' display in Mason, Ohio. He's one of the many light nuts I know.
However, as good as Carson's display is, nobody can beat Marty Slack of Murray, Utah.

Check out his videos especially "Boogie Woogie Santa Claus."

They do take time and creativity. Basic computer control costs about as much as a new Randall and with the lights going off and on all the time, it keeps the electric bill in check. Afterall, Marty has a family and a Harley to support on a fireman's salary.

I thought you might enjoy seeing what the "just ain't right" folks do when they start messing with Christmas lights.
